Ingredients

  • 3 ripe avocados

  • 1 small tomato, diced

  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped

  • 1 jalapeño pepper, minced (seeds removed for less heat)

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • Mash the avocados: In a medium bowl, mash the avocados with a fork until you reach your desired consistency. For a smoother texture, you can use a food processor.
  • Add ingredients: Stir in the diced tomato, red onion, minced jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  • Taste and adjust: Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasonings as needed.
  • Serve immediately or refrigerate: Guacamole is best served fresh. If you need to store it, cover it tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to a day. However, the color may darken over time.

Notes

  • For a spicier guacamole, leave the seeds in the jalapeño pepper.
  • Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice for a citrusy flavor.
  • To prevent the guacamole from browning quickly, press a sheet of plastic wrap directly onto the surface before refrigerating.
  • Serve with tortilla chips, tacos, or as a topping for grilled meats or fish.
